About Us

Who We Are:

Waste Free Edmonton is a grassroots, non-profit organization working to significantly reduce the amount of waste created in Edmonton by stopping it at the source. That means producing and consuming less at the front-end, and reusing and repurposing items wherever possible.

Our Mission:

Reduce waste generated in Edmonton by engaging with government, businesses, organizations and citizens.

Our Vision:

Edmonton is a global leader in waste reduction that focuses its efforts on stopping waste at the source.

Our Featured Initiatives

Single-Use Plastics Bylaw

In 2018 we started a multi-faceted campaign calling on Edmonton City Council to take serious action to significantly reduce the amount of single-use items in Edmonton. More specifically, we requested that City Council implement a comprehensive single-use strategy that included a bylaw addressing bags, straws, disposable cups, utensils, and take-out containers. After years of hard work, Edmonton created a single-use bylaw that has been in effect since July 2023.
